About St John's
During 2010 we launched our Model of Mission in the form of a new Church logo.
The triquetra shape in the logo reminds us of the Model itself in which the marks of the Church in the Creed (One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic) translate into three essential and united areas of church life: worship, fellowship and outreach.
Inspired by St John’s writings in the Bible, we see these areas as linked and flowing into one another. Our experience of God in worship overflows into outreach. Our outreach welcomes others into fellowship and through our fellowship we nurture each other into a deeper faith experience which in turn overflows.... A verse which expresses this well is 1 John 1:3.
“What we have seen and heard we declare to you so that you may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his son Jesus Christ.”
In this model, mission is something we are already doing by being the Church and all our varying contributions to church life are essential to this sharing in God’s work.
Through a consultation exercise we sought to make the model our own. We developed three values which express our St John’s way of being a Church in Bexley.
Inspiring worship – the heart and goal of everything we do.
Encouraging faith - recognising that we are each on a spiritual journey.
Affirming community – valuing being together and being inclusive.
We then translated these into more memorable words and combined them into our logo to create something which we can both present to the world and use as a reminder to ourselves of what we are about: Inspiring Worship, Inviting Faith, Including Everyone.
